An Officer from the National Population Council, Florence Hagan, has called on District Assemblies to incorporate Adolescent Reproductive Right in their programmes. According to her this has become necessary because the rate at which teenage pregnancy is increasing in the Country is alarming. Mrs. Hagan said this at a sensitization programme in Ashaiman, to educate various stakeholders in the Municipality on how to improve the life of teenage girls and reduce the spate of teenage pregnancy. She said the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted negatively on teenagers with a lot of them getting impregnated. Mrs. Hagan said for Ghana to attain the Sustainable Development Goal Three, there is the need to put interventions that will help the country to achieve those targets in place. The Ashaiman Municipal Health Director, Patience Ami Mamattah, said from January to September this year, the Directorate recorded four hundred and 49 teenage pregnancies involving girls between 11 and 17 years. She said adolescent HIV rate is equally on the rise in the Municipality especially between the 15 and 19 age group. She called on all stakeholders to help educate the youth on sexual health.
